Your page

A full-page preview appears here once the page loads. It updates as you change any setting and prints exactly as shown.

Pages are drawn in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded or saved. Most printers leave a small blank border, so lines stop a few millimeters before the edge of the sheet. Print at 100% scale or Actual size to keep the spacing exact.

How to print lined paper

Choose a line spacing, a color and a margin line, then press Print or save as PDF. In the print dialog, pick the same paper size and 100% scale. Set Pages to print several identical sheets at once, up to 20.

  • College ruled is the default; switch to wide ruled for larger handwriting.
  • Choose Name and date line for classroom handouts.
  • Use a very light gray line if you plan to scan your writing.
  • Download SVG to keep a one-page vector file.

Wide ruled, college ruled and narrow ruled

US notebook paper comes in a few common spacings: wide ruled at 11/32 inch (8.7 mm), college ruled at 9/32 inch (7.1 mm) and narrow ruled at 1/4 inch (6.4 mm). Wide and college ruled sheets usually have a red margin line about 1 1/4 inches from the left edge. These are conventions rather than a formal standard, so store notebooks can differ slightly. The custom setting accepts any spacing from 4 to 25 mm.

Free lined paper you can adjust

Notebook paper is the same everywhere, but your needs are not. Change the spacing for a child who writes large, lighten the lines for a journal, remove the margin for a letter, or add a header for name and date. The preview shows the whole page exactly as it will print.

Lined paper templates as PDF

To keep a PDF, choose Save as PDF as the printer in the print dialog. The file keeps the lines sharp at any zoom, so you can print it again later, send it to a copy shop, or open it in a note-taking app on a tablet.

Graph paper, dot grid and isometric paper

The pages below use the same print setup for other kinds of paper: graph paper in inch and metric squares with heavier lines and axes, dot grid paper for journals and planning, and isometric paper with triangle lines or dots for 3D drawing.

A few helpful answers

Before you begin.

Is the lined paper free to print?

Yes. Make and print as many pages as you like. There is no account, and the only text on the page is a small line with the site name at the bottom.

What is the difference between wide ruled and college ruled?

Wide ruled lines are 11/32 inch (8.7 mm) apart and college ruled lines are 9/32 inch (7.1 mm) apart. Wide ruled gives larger handwriting more room; college ruled fits more lines on a page.

How do I save lined paper as a PDF?

Press Print or save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF as the destination in the print dialog. Keep the scale at 100%.

Why do the lines stop before the edge of the page?

Most printers cannot print right to the edge, so the lines stop a few millimeters short. This keeps every line fully printed.

Can I print several pages at once?

Yes. Set Pages to any number from 1 to 20 and the print page contains that many identical sheets.

Does it work on A4 paper?

Yes. Choose A4 under Paper and select A4 in your print dialog too. The line spacing stays the same; only the page size changes.
